Russia

After the communist era Russia has been open for the Christian message. LEAF supports its cooperation partner, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria and Russia, to spread the Gospel throughout the whole Russia.

LEAF began working in Russia officially in 1995, although some preaching trips were made already from 1969. The partner church is the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria in Russia (ELCIR).

LEAF’s missionaries preach and teach. They encourage local volunteers and visit the elderly people. They educate the youth to take responsibility for mission work by themselves. The work is done mainly around the St. Petersburg area, Western Ingria, and in Krasnoyarsk, in Siberia.

The possibility to interact with other readers is also essential. Internet-mission is operated for Russian speaking people as well. Vybor (“choice”) media includes a Youth Magazine and a web site. The web site comprises e.g. Christian teaching, interviews, video clips, an Internet radio and a bible quiz. It reaches thousands of young people in the Russianspeaking world, not only in Russia but also, for example, in Ukraine.
