Kenya

More than 40 years ago LEAF began mission work in Kenya—the first mission field in Africa in LEAF’s history.

LEAF proclaims the Gospel in Kenya in partnership with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenya (ELCK). Among LEAF’s main missions in Kenya is to support the work of Matongo Lutheran Theological College and Matongo Lutheran Teachers Training College.

LEAF has founded, for example, a special school for the mentally handicapped, which has generally affected positive attitudes toward handicapped persons. LEAF is also running some pioneering work among the Masai and Samburu tribes and refugees.

LEAF has established two godparent programs in Kenya. Child Care Project helps more than 500 orphans in the Kisumu region. In the Masai tribal areas the support is targeted at young girls to avoid the female genital mutilation and early forced marriages.

LEAF offers the possibility for children to hear the Gospel and organizes education, food and health care. Everything is done respectfully in their own surroundings with the support of the local authorities and social workers.
